Description
LOST-WAX CAST BRONZE ON A MARBLE BASE.
Mercury is a copy of Cellini's original model, located in the Bargello museum in Florence. The statue of Perseus was commissioned to Cellini by Cosimo I de 'Medici and built between 1545 and 1554. For the four niches of the rich carved marble base, Cellini created the four mythological figures linked to the myth of Perseus, including the one of Mercury in the act of rising, flying, from the ground.
