Neptune by Giambologna
In the urban redevelopment of the center of Bologna commissioned by Pope Pius IV, an entire block was demolished to enlarge the area of Piazza Maggiore which was opened in 1564, in the center of which the fountain with the monumental Neptune by Giambologna was placed. The statue was placed in the exact point where the cardo and the decumanus of the ancient Roman city crossed. It is one of the most important examples of the Italian Mannerist style.
